Impande Ye Africa, meaning “The Root of Africa”, is a production and performing arts company founded in 2012 by South African born Thandi Mthembu Hicks. Impande is an authentic African cultural arts theatre that provides activities throughout Houston, Texas and the U.S., educating the young and old in schools, colleges, libraries, civic halls, community centers, and festivals with entertaining educational programs. Impande Ye Africa strives to preserve the history and traditions of the continent of Africa, with an emphasis on southern African cultures. Impande presents performances in dance, theatre, music, and storytelling; donned in spectacular authentic costumes and props that represent different tribes of Africa.
Impande Ye Africa presents residencies in communities , colleges and schools, offering Dance and Drumming Master Classes, Workshops and Lecture Demonstrations. One of Impande’s popular workshops is the “Gumboot Dance Workshop” which acquaints audiences with rubber-boot rhythm-slapping that was popularized by miners and street workers in South Africa.
Impande will enthrall audiences with their highly charged cultural dances from the Xhosa, Zulu, Sotho, Koi Koi people of South Africa. The performances are accompanied by tribal songs that enhance these dances.

NEEDS FOR THE SOUTH AFRICAN GUMBOOT DANCE WORKSHOP:
A large dance studio or hotel ballroom that can accommodate the number of attendees expected by the PRESENTER
